Composite Decking Vs Wood decking
Composite decking materials first started to appear in the early 1990s.Manufacturers, engineers and designers are familiar with the ability of composite materials to sustain high-quality, durable, cost-effective products. Composite materials are found in many of the products used daily - from reclaimed wood and plastic such as cars we drive, outdoor furniture, and of course our backyard decking.
The reclaimed plastic comes primarily from grocery sacks and stretch film, and the waste wood is from woodworking manufacturers.
Cost wise, Composite materials will cost you at least 2- 3 times what it would cost for a wood deck. However the benefit is less maintenance. Save on the cost of pressure washing your deck every year or two (Recommended proceedure is yearly) follwed by re-staining your deck or some clear preservative. This means spending effort and time, Add a rental of a pressure wash machine and cost of materials each year or at least every other year and over time it starts adding up. . Otherwise your wood deck will weather and each year not treated, it can grey-blacken out.
The bottom line: cost of yearly maintenace vs. initail cost of composites.
