Trex Decking Most Popular Questions&Answers Pt2.

How about stains, how do I clean my deck of this?

Stains such as mold, leaves, mildew, and such can be washed with a sodium hypoclorite deck wash.  Rust stains and dirt, use a cleaner containing phosphoric acid .  Grease and oil, use a detergent  with a degreasing agent and scrub the area as soon as possible.  Its also a good idea to periodically clean out the gaps between the boards of leaves and debris with a flat tool.

What happens when Trex gets Wet, Will I slip?

Whether wet or dry, Trex is a stable, slip-resistant surface.  It is also compliant with the American's with Disabilities Act scoring adequately on their various tests.

Will Trek absorb any moisture?

Remembering Trex is also made of plastic materials, and the other half is wood;  this means low moisture absorbance.

How about Trex performance in cold weather?

Not a problem, it reacts fine with even extreme cold weather.  Although look for Trex to be harder to nail in cold weather since it is half plastic in composition, so pre drill before nailing.

What is Trex like in hot weather?

The span chars and gapping instructions were designed to make sure Trex performs well in all types of hot weather- please follow the instructions on how much to gap.  Look for Trex to be more flexible while contracting and expanding slightly in hot weather.  This will not affect the performance of the decking, but it is it's nature.

Can I use Trex on the ground?

Not advisable.  Not to be used for edging and landscape.  No special treatment is need on Trex, since it is already rot and insect resistant.
