How about stains, how do I clean my
deck of this?
Stains such as mold, leaves, mildew, and such can be
washed with a sodium hypoclorite deck wash. Rust
stains and dirt, use a cleaner containing phosphoric acid .
Grease and oil, use a detergent with a degreasing
agent and scrub the area as soon as possible. Its also
a good idea to periodically clean out the gaps between the
boards of leaves and debris with a flat tool.
What happens when Trex gets Wet,
Will I slip?
Whether wet or dry, Trex is a stable, slip-resistant
surface. It is also compliant with the American's with
Disabilities Act scoring adequately on their various tests.
Will Trek absorb any moisture?
Remembering Trex is also made of plastic materials, and
the other half is wood; this means low moisture
absorbance.
How about Trex performance in cold
weather?
Not a problem, it reacts fine with even extreme cold
weather. Although look for Trex to be harder to nail
in cold weather since it is half plastic in composition, so
pre drill before nailing.
What is Trex like in hot weather?
The span chars and gapping instructions were designed to
make sure Trex performs well in all types of hot weather-
please follow the instructions on how much to gap.
Look for Trex to be more flexible while contracting and
expanding slightly in hot weather. This will not
affect the performance of the decking, but it is it's
nature.
Can I use Trex on the ground?
Not advisable. Not to be used for edging and
landscape. No special treatment is need on Trex, since
it is already rot and insect resistant.
How about the fire rating for Trex?
For railing and decking it's rated as Class C sometimes
known as Class 3. Which means it burns similar to wood in
combustion. Note too, Trex products have been found to
be no more toxic than wood products.
Are Trex Products accepted by
Local Building Departments?
Yes both commercial and residential throughout the United
States and Canada. Trex has received a listing
with the International Code
Council Evaluation Service ICC ESR-1190 which covers BOCA,
UBC, IBC, IRC and SBC codes.
